Read with Dr. Wade

Every Saturday in May at the Anderson Bonner Park, 12000 Park Central Dr., Dallas, TX 75230.

Hi there Great People.

We are excited to announce Season 3 of Read with Dr. Wade and Friends Book Club!

Our highlighted book is “Groundings With My Brothers” by Walter Rodney. Join us on each Saturday in May, starting May 4th for a Unique Learning Experience.  One of our gracious Sponsors from California has provided a limited number of books for our Members, so secure your spot early to claim one of those copies.

*** OUR FAVORITE PART: This Season We will be meeting at the historic Anderson Bonner Park. Anderson Bonner was a former slave who later owned 2,000 acres of land in North Dallas. A recent article by WFAA  says, “Bonner couldn’t read or write, but he knew how to live off the land.  Piece by piece he bought property along White Rock Creek and across present -day North Dallas, near where 75 meets the LBJ Freeway.”

-What a neat location to explore our book, don’t you think? Yesss! We are so excited!

Community African American History Class

The partnership of the African American Museum of Dallas and W.M. Dulaney Branch of ASALH presents “COMMUNITY AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY CLASS”.

This class has a dual purpose. It focuses on the adoption of Freedmen Schools during the civil rights movement, initiated by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in Mississippi and Alabama. These schools played a crucial role in educating African Americans and fostering a sense of identity and pride through teaching African American History.

It also combats the national ban on teaching African American History.
