Vision of W. Marvin Dulaney Branch of ASALH
To shed light on the rich histories of Black Texans; and, in so doing, honor the namesake of our branch and promote the study of Black experiences as Dr. Woodson had envisioned it.
The WM Dulaney ASALH branch, is hosting an upcoming Juneteenth celebration, which will be broadcast nationally by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH).
This event will feature a symposium on the history and the celebration of Juneteenth. Additionally, we will have the talented violinist Clover, who will perform music highlighting the cultural traditions of Juneteenth.
Before the main activities commence at 11:30 AM, Mrs. Opal will be hosting a special walk at the fairgrounds. Please register at https://opalswalkdallastx.raceroster.com/.

A recent article by WFAA says, “Bonner couldn’t read or write, but he knew how to live off the land. Piece by piece he bought property along White Rock Creek and across present -day North Dallas, near where 75 meets the LBJ Freeway.”

The partnership of the African American Museum of Dallas and W.M. Dulaney Branch of ASALH presents “COMMUNITY AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY CLASS”.
This class has a dual purpose. It focuses on the adoption of Freedmen Schools during the civil rights movement, initiated by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in Mississippi and Alabama. These schools played a crucial role in educating African Americans and fostering a sense of identity and pride through teaching African American History.
It also combats the national ban on teaching African American History.
